n the Kurukshetra War, Bhima kills Dushasana, tears his arm out of his body and drinks his blood, as pledged and helps Draupadi redeem her vow while redeeming his own. Dushasana’s death greatly agitated Karna and Duryodhana, and demoralized the Kaurava Army watching Bhima in his ecstasy of wrath.
Bhima after his brutal killing of Dushasana, tore open his cousin’s chest and drank his blood in deference to his promise to Draupadi who had been insulted by Dushasana. However later he reveals to Gandhari that he spat out Dushasan’s blood without swallowing it.
artist’s impression of bheem drinking the blood off duhshasan’s chest…
incidentally, bheem never let the blood go down his throat, because it would have meant that he had become a rakshas. all he did was touch the blood on his lips, and then he took it to panchali (aka draupadi) to smear her hair with it, so that she could tie her hair in a bun once again.
after being pulled by the hair by duhshasan after the great gamble, she had vowed never to tie her hair until it was ‘ornamented’ by his blood.
